Pamela’s Guide to Storing Your Winter Knits

As the days grow longer and we tuck away our heavier layers, it is time to give those cherished knits a little end-of-season care. Whether your favourites are from Mansted, Untouched World, or another beloved Pamela’s brand, a few thoughtful steps now will help them stay beautiful for years to come.

1. Start fresh.
Even if your sweaters appear clean, it is best to wash them before putting them away. Body oils, lotions, or traces of fragrance can attract moths or cause fibres to break down over time. Follow each garment’s care label and, when possible, hand wash with a gentle wool detergent.

2. Fold, do not hang.
Hangers can stretch and distort natural fibres. Instead, fold your knits neatly and store them flat inside breathable cotton or canvas storage bags. Pillowcases work well in a pinch. Avoid plastic bins or vacuum-sealed bags, which can trap moisture.

3. Add natural protection.
Slip a few cedar blocks or lavender sachets among your folded sweaters to keep them smelling lovely and to discourage moths. Refresh these each season for best results.

4. Choose a cool, dry spot.
Store your knits in a cool, dry place such as a closet shelf or under-bed drawer, rather than a damp basement or hot attic. Temperature extremes can damage delicate fibres.

A little care now will keep your favourite sweaters soft, fresh, and ready to enjoy again when the chill returns.
